Additional information: The Wakefield MSK Service was established to provide timely physiotherapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation support to employees across the Wakefield Health and Social Care Partnership who do not currently have access to NHS Occupational Health MSK services. The service supports staff experiencing musculoskeletal conditions that may otherwise result in prolonged sickness absence, reduced productivity or delayed return to work. Continuity of service provision was required. Due to the late notice of the funding, a decision was made to extend the pilot of this service and allow time for a service review to be conducted to inform future commissioning decisions.

Physio Med Limited was already delivering the service and had an established referral pathway, reporting framework and operational arrangements in place. Delaying contractual arrangements whilst undertaking a full provider selection process would have risked disruption to the service and delayed access to physiotherapy support for eligible employees requiring assessment, treatment and rehabilitation. Due to the late notice of the funding, a decision was made to extend the pilot of this service and allow time for a service review to be conducted to inform future commissioning decisions.

No Conflict of Interest raised

Approver: Wakefield Place Management Team & Principal Contracts Manager
