Lot #1Cardiff and Vale University Health Board intends to commission a provider to deliver…Planned

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board intends to commission a provider to deliver comprehensive optometry services at HMP Cardiff for an initial contract period of 1 year, with the option to extend for 2 further years in 12-month increments at the Health Board's discretion.

The service will provide timely access to routine and clinically necessary eye care for the prison population, including sight tests, assessment and management of visual and ocular conditions, provision of spectacles where clinically required, and referral to secondary care ophthalmology services when appropriate.

The successful provider will deliver regular on-site clinics, supplying all necessary equipment, consumables and professional expertise to undertake examinations and provide patient-centred care. The provider will be expected to work collaboratively with prison healthcare teams to support effective care pathways, continuity of care and accurate clinical record keeping.

The service aims to improve visual health outcomes for prisoners, many of whom have unmet eye care needs on entry to custody. By supporting early diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of eye conditions, the service will contribute to improved health, wellbeing and participation in education, rehabilitation and daily activities within the prison environment.

Services must be delivered in accordance with relevant professional, clinical and regulatory standards and will be subject to contract management and performance monitoring arrangements to ensure the delivery of a safe, effective and high-quality service.

How often do local suppliers win?
i

About this data
  • Source. Official UK public procurement notices (Find a Tender), reused under the Open Government Licence v3.0. New notices arrive through the day; the figures are rebuilt nightly.
  • Two views, kept apart. The authority’s own track record and the wider market for the same kind of work sit side by side and are never mixed. Where the local picture is too thin, a figure widens to a broader market and says which one it used.
  • Forecasts are labelled. The price forecast and its range, possible competitors and the earlier-work matches are our estimates from past awards: not published facts, not win chances and not price advice. Official notices do not say who is bidding.
  • Every figure shows what it rests on. Not every notice publishes a bid count, a value or a delivery region, so each figure carries the number of records behind it, and one built on few records is marked as such. The on a figure explains it; the counting rules are in the methodology. Spotted something wrong? Tell us.
